Safety First (Very Important!) Always wear safety goggles, gloves, long sleeves, and closed shoes. Work in a well-ventilated area (open windows or outside for lye mixing). Keep white vinegar nearby for any lye spills on skin. Never add water to lye — always sprinkle lye into water. No children or pets in the area. Step-by-Step Instructions Prepare your workspace Clear a counter. Line your mold with freezer paper or use a silicone mold. Have a stick blender, spatula, thermometer, and scale ready. Make the lye solution Weigh 383 g distilled water into a heat-safe plastic or stainless container. Dissolve 12 g sugar completely in the water (warm slightly if needed). Add the pinch of tussah silk. Outside or in strong ventilation, slowly sprinkle 142 g lye into the water while stirring gently and constantly. It will heat up and fume — normal. Set aside safely to cool to 100–120°F (about 1 hour). Melt and prepare oils Weigh coconut oil into a large stainless pot or microwave-safe bowl. Melt gently on low heat or in short microwave bursts. Add olive oil, castor oil, and meadowfoam/avocado oil. Stir. Aim for oils temperature of 100–120°F. Combine When both lye and oils are 100–120°F (within 10–15°F of each other), slowly pour lye solution into oils. Add 28 g sodium lactate to the mixture now (or to cooled lye before pouring). Blend to trace Use stick blender in short bursts (2–3 seconds on, stir by hand off). Blend until thin pudding consistency (light trace) — this recipe traces normally, not too fast. Pour into mold Pour batter into prepared mold. Tap mold firmly on counter to remove air bubbles. Smooth top if desired. Cover and wait Cover lightly with cardboard or plastic wrap and a towel (light insulation). Leave undisturbed 24–48 hours. Unmold and cut When firm, unmold and cut into bars. Cure Place bars on a coated rack in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area. Cure at least 4–6 weeks (longer is better). Bars will harden, get milder, and develop excellent bubbly, creamy lather. Expected Results Gentle, conditioning bars with big fluffy bubbles, creamy lather, and a silky after-feel
